Kids snacks...

Hi all,

I'm looking for some snacks that I can make for my LG (3) that won't cost the earth and not loaded with sugar etc.

She is with the her childminder three days a week and she has dinner with them, the problem being when she gets home she is wanting a snack before we start the nightime routine. I don't have a problem with this as she is going trough a bit of a growth spurt and is a very active toddler (sports clubs, ballet etc) but just looking for something that wont be too heavy before bed.

Also any general snack recipes/ideas for when she is at home would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

J

    Fruit and veg.
Egg muffins, although a bit on the heavy side
We're going though a lot of mini milks at the moment.
    Yoghurt
    Dry cereal
Bread in its forms (sticks, crumpets, toast, sandwhiches etc)
We also make lollies with fruit juice or fruit and milk mix.
    Pitta/tortilla pizza

Toast. No need to make it more complex.

    Single adult thinking.

When children come into your life, you realise that they eat comparatively small portions of everything so want to make sure that whatever food you can get down them delivers all the nutrients they need. Carbs are fine for those of us who cannot be bothered to cook, but even I wouldn't inflict my culinary laziness on an innocent child!! I'd chop up a kiwi fruit instead :D:D:D

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

Things have changed from the 1940's. Children require a varied diet, its one of the main reasons scurvy and rickets are less prevalent now.

    Thanks all for your suggestions.

I have made a mixed fruit slice, cheese biscuits and some turkey and hidden veg "sausage rolls' for tomorrow when little monster is home.

Thinking about making some hummus for tonights snack.

    Thanks again

Banana & milk were always my "go tos" when my two were hungry youngsters with a "hunger gap" at the end of a busy day. Both apparently aid sleep - though my younger one had other ideas...
  • Oatcakes with hummus, nut butter or cream cheese, chopped fruit with a spoon of natural yoghurt and a sprinkling of granola. Granola is easy to make and lots of recipes online.

I often make a fruitcake loaf, or muffins with wholemeal flour and fruit in them.
