Hi
I have a car for work that is on an employee car ownership scheme, at the moment I get 11p per mile but I have been told by the lease company that I can’t claim the extra mileage payment as I have already had them. This was in a payment on my wage that was then deducted away ie payment of £540 deductions of £540. Is this correct, other members of staff have been advised to claim back the full amount but I am not sure this correct, has anyone else come across this and if so could you advise
Thanks Andy

Claim back from who?
Is it a company car?0 -
sorry wasn't clear on that. I am looking to see if I can claim the difference between the 11p and 45p back from the tax man. The car is not classed as a company car as it is in my name and I also had an interest free loan from the company to get the car. It is under a employee car ownership scheme.0

Yes you can. From https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/employment-income-manual/eim31505
https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/employment-income-manual/eim31550The same principles apply to ECOS vehicles as to any privately-owned vehicles used for business travel.0 -
Thanks I will go and sort my claim out.0

You definitely cannot do this. You are claiming tax relief on the difference.
So assuming you have done less than 10,000 business miles (in a tax year) then you could try and claim tax relief on 34p/mile.
Depending on how much taxable income you have this could save you anything from 0.0p to 13.6p per mile.
For most people it will be 6.8p/mile.
Getting your employer to pay more for using your own car, even just say 20p/mile, would be worth more to you in cash terms.0
