Miners Pension Scheme - Compensation - Help please!

Hi,

Hope someone can help.

My dad was a miner many years ago and is living (barely surviving) on his pension. I remember reading a year or so ago about miners having the right to claim compensation for the misspelling of pensions if they were advised to leave the miners pension scheme (which my dad did) for a private pension which was ultimately valued much less and was sold on false promises I believe.

Does anyone have any further details on this which may help us to progress? I am normally not a fan of a claim culture but any money would drastically improve his living standards and health. He worked many years down the mine and in my biased opinion is worth every penny he can get, so any help would be so much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Your dad's transfer out of the scheme should automatically have been reviewed as part of the major review of the misselling of personal pensions in the 1990s, but a small number of individuals were somehow missed out of the review and/or things weren't handled as they should have been.

By way of a starter on what to do now, have a word with TPAS https://www.pensionsadvisoryservice.org.uk
  • Great thanks for the tip. I!!!8217;ll give that a go.

If anyone has experience, both good and bad, with a similar claim
It would be nice to hear from yous.

It won't help you very much - you could have hopes disproportionately raised/lowered depending on who replies. Given how long ago the review was, much depends on whether you can show your dad's pension was not reviewed and should have been - and the same applies to anyone who replies to you.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
