Newbie - thought I'd say hi

Just thought I would say "hi",

My husband and I had our first ever meeting with Christians Against Poverty yesterday. Compared to some people we are not that much in debt - but to me it was horrible and I couldnt see a way out so I contacted CAP. We had had a bomb drop as just hours before our lodger handed in his key and left us. He was due to pay his rent the next day so left us in the lurch really.

They came round Wednesday and I cried during the meeting- the relief of someone helping, caring and being able to take the burden from me was vast.

I had tried in the past to budget and cut our costs but this time, someone else is liasing with creditors and someone else has the control.

CAP listed my income (which to be fair isn't much as I'm on benefits and my husband is on minimum wage) and all my outgoings including any catelogues, loans, direct debits and they are now working out a budget.

I was surprised and happy that the budget gives a generous amount for food (£30 each a week) and also a little every month to save (£5 a week)we've never saved before!

I think the first eight weeks will be the most difficult especially with Christmas around the corner.

We are just starting the slow walk to becoming debt free, and I know its not going to be the easiest or the quickest journey we've had to take but getting into debt didnt happen overnight so getting out wont either. But with CAP and the support of our church and CAP's church we'll be fine.

Good to see you're dealing with it all so well.

Your lodger didn't give you any notice at all? I hope you got a deposit off him to begin with that you kept? Have a look at http://www.entitledto.co.uk/ and see of you are claiming everythign you should be.

    good luck
