When account was frozen, I have popped in the bank, they have faxed the letter for me to the office, and few days later I could use my accounts as normal :-)

    Hi

I just came across your post.

Most bank accounts are frozen for a short period of time, usually about two days after submitting the bankruptcy petition. Sometimes it can take longer while the Official Receiver (OR) checks your account.

Contact Santander and check with them but if you have concerns then open up a new basic account with another bank, make sure the bank is fine with undischarged bankrupts.

As the OR will be accessing your bank account they’ll be able to check transactions at this point, which is likely why they didn’t ask for statements.

You can always contact the Insolvency Service for direct bankruptcy advice. You can find the link here. At the bottom of the page is the contact details for the bankruptcy helpline.

    Take care,

    Rachael

Evening - just want to comment on the bit highlighted, the OR does not have access to your bank account.

OP - if they want statements they will ask, it depends on the reasons for bankruptcy and how detailed the form you completed is if they want them or not.
  • Hi,

My OR contacted me today and has unfroze my bank accounts with Santander. He has requested a statement from my new account to review my spending since BR.

He then said that based on what Ive spent over the last two weeks he wanted statements from my old bank accounts which I’ve provided. The money I’ve spent since BR falls in line with the budget I set with him. I feel like they’re scrutinising everything I do at the moment. Is this normal?!

I suffer with anxiety and depression which Im on medication for and Im not coping with this at all.

I know I have to follow the process but im finding it so so difficult

It's normal to ask for account statements, it's easier to get from you as trying to get them from the bank takes a lot of chasing.

Try not to worry, mine looked at bank statements going back 2 years I had a face to face interview and he just glanced at them and said they were fine nothing jumped out.
Its a process they go through, keep in touch here for support.

The OR will scrutinise everything at the moment, but moment is short if nothing glaringly obvious jumps out at them, you did pay them a lot of money so you would hope they did something for it.

Give it a few days, maybe a week or two and you will be fine, relax and as the OR said, live your life as normal, but with one big difference, no more debt, no more nasty letters, no more chasing phone calls and hopefully a completely different relationship with money.

    Good Luck
