We have recieved information that suggests that due to our children being born before working families tax credits was introduced we should be entitled to £1,500 tax payment for the years 2002 2003, has any one else heard of this, we looked on website called www.refundsdirect.co.uk which gave us this info

For 2001/2 and 2002/3 there was a tax relief called the children's tax credit which was given to lower income families. Try ploughing through the pages from this site http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/inmanual/in1320.htm
You may not be due the full amount - the website have presumably worked out the most someone could get. I think the time limit to claim for 2001/2 will run out next 5/4/08, or maybe on 31/1/08 if you are in self-assessment. Hope that gets you started.

Contact your tax office and ask them if Working Families Tax credit was included in your tax code in the years prior to the introduction of the current system in 2003.

OH and for goodness sake don't use any company like Refunds Direct as they take a cut of any refunds you get back from HMRC. You can get the refund yourself for free just by asking them.
