M&S Return

Options
Hi,

I have bought a jumper middle of July, which I have not worn at all until last week. Got to wash it exactly according to the label and now it doesn't fit the same way it did before.

It was fine last week, but it seems to have shrunk slightly. I don't think by much but enough for me not wear it again as I don't feel comfortable in it anymore.

Rang up M&S and they told me to come into store and see whether they can do anything for me.

Has anyone had any similar experiences? The only worry I have got is that it has been a few months since I bought it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Some items do shrink, it depends what the material is ie. cotton, etc.

Take the item to Customer Services and state exactly what happened, you may wish to read up a little on the Sale and Services of Goods Act 1984 whereby a item should last for a suitable length of time ie. more than one wash.

Be polite at all times and ask what can be done about it. They may refund (at the last known selling price if without a receipt) or replace if it is a current line.

If you have no joy and I'm not saying it's the correct thing to do morally, but it has been known to buy the same item again and then return the faulty item with the new receipt.

As I say it's not the morally correct thing to do and if it was summer stock may not be available to buy again, but loads of people do it daily and not just M&S. This info comes from my OH who works for M&S, who has seen battered old slippers, used underwear (yuk!) and many other clothing that people have brought back stating it's shrunk or is not suitable, knowing full well they have worn it on more than one occasion.

This will not work as the jumper has had the tags removed and has been washed

    Hi,

    Thanks to everyone's replies.

Just thought I'd let you know the outcome: Took the jumper back at the weekend, explained exactly what happened and received a full refund!

    Thanks M&S!:T
