Thanks jack... so those are both shared paths where the pedestrian is closest to the wall/hedge side and the cyclist is on the outside and both are expected to stop at the side road. (Which is not quite what is in the drawing) In the B6326, the kerb separation is wide enough that they could have done it the other way round - i.e wide pavement, cycle lane, narrow kerb, main roadway and made the side road give way at the cycle lane. That would also stop vehicles parking on the separator (well - stop some - white vans might continue to make their own rules...) In the A1134, it looks like an existing pavement was just made into a shared path on one side of the road - if you look at the other side of the road heading south - it's the other style where the cycle lane is painted in the left side of the main carriageway and does have priority over side roads. I'd guess that doing that on both sides would have not left room for two normal lanes in both directions and enough space to pass cyclists so the council/ whoever compromised. Which is usually what happens when the road has been there for over 100 years and there isn't space to build a better option.
In the one I linked you to, it used to be two-way traffic with a two-way cycle lane on the north side of the road, which meant that cyclists had to stick to single-file. To convert it to two separate cycle lanes, the road had to be made one-way for traffic (eastbound). Given this is quite close to a number of colleges; there are a lot of cyclists in rush hour and thus a lot to answer the council's consultation (and pressure groups too). So that's possibly a factor in different places around the country - the more cyclists there are and the more they make their presence known, the more chance they have of being catered for.

Look at this lovely clean, kerb separated one in East London that keeps cyclists away from a 40mph urban dual carriageway. Then follow it to the ends and see it disappear into a massive roundabout (east) and straight onto pavement (west).
I need to think of something new here...

That's a classic! Would anyone notice if they all got removed one night?

Looking at the grass verge - there seem to be footpaths crossing left to right. So presumably, somewhere in the local design rules; there's one that says cycle paths give way to footpaths when they meet. And this is a perfectly sensible rule. Which appears to have been stupidly applied :wall: as what ever housing those footpaths led to on the right hand side of the picture isn't there any more

So, going back to my preceding post, I think that bikes and vehicles on NSL roads (where you could safely travel at speed, caveats, etc.) is an accident waiting to happen and I think it is a credit to the patience and care of drivers in general that there are not more.
Can't be bothered to pull you up on your other guff but this narks me massively.
You are lawfully bound to not harm another human being, your attitude stinks by thinking that motorists should get any credit for doing something they are bound by law to do above everything else!
You might as well have said it's a credit to the men going out at night that there are not more rapes, they are so good at not being lured into attacking women!
Frankly your type are the ones that are the cause of the issues on the road and endangering vulnerable road users, you're utterly clueless when it comes to YOUR lawful responsibility and what you are required to do not to mention your impatience.
Go do an advanced driving course and get some lessons on riding a bike, it might, just might make you become aware of how you are supposed to behave when in control of a killing machine!
