Can wife inherit husband's State Pension?

I have read that it is possible for a widow receiving her (reduced) state pension since 2004 and which is based on her husband's contributions, would be able to inherit some of her husband's state pension upon his death.


This seems to fit into my personal circumstances and I wonder if I have got this right. Could someone confirm this for me please? I have been in receipt of a full State Pension since 2007.

You say that you started to receive a category B pension ( pension based on your husband's contributions) in 2004.

Were you widowed in 2007?

At this point your pension increased to a full basic state pension plus some inherited second state pension from the late spouse?

I am asking this as the circumstances seemed to fit my circumstances and I wanted to confirm the information for future planning.


I am pleased to say that my wife is not yet a widow, but say I dropped dead tomorrow - would she be entitled to have her lowly state pension (based on my contributions) increased?

You reached SPA under the old system.

Your wife receives a Cat B pension on your contributions.
