Online pharmacies

Hi


My father has just been told that if he wants his usual prescribed statin it will cost him around £40 per month as it is now too expensive for the NHS to use. He has had serious reactions to other statins in the past so would like to keep taking the same one. I have found this online for a fraction of the price but am worried about buying medication online. Does anyone have experience of these online pharmacies - are they legit and regulated?

Make sure you budget for the cost of obtaining a private prescription for the statin as well. Personally, I wouldn't touch an overseas pharmacy.

I've used veterinary ones with confidence as many are run by checkable vets. Human ones are not as easy to check though I think Manor Pharmacies are a UK company, have shops and do pet prescriptions too.


For my pets I used to save a lot of money,buying online,when prescriptions had to be given free of charge, but the saving has plummeted as vets can now charge. Of course doctors always have charged for what is private work.

I had a bad delivery experience when ordering, so I can't really advise them. But I have a few friends who are very satisfied, so it's up to you.

I get my regular NHS repeat prescriptions through Pharmacy2U without major issue, but never used a private prescription.

Who has told your father this? His GP? His Pharmacist? The reason I ask is because I had trouble tolerating generic meds and on speaking with my GP they put me on branded stuff, the prescription gets marked as such. (Long story short, I'm now on a more consistent generic make.)

I use DrugsDirect and have been for about a year now. No problems at all and they're good at letting you know if there is any problem in fulfilling the prescription.

Will try and get to the bottom of this as have been told that brand names are insignificant as the active ingredient is identical so price is the only factor for the NHS?

Think it was GP who has told him this but will check.

Will have a look at DrugsDirect as well.

I've used both Dr Fox and Lloyds Pharmacy in the past and had medications delivered without issues. They are both legit online pharmacies and have the green 'click to verify if this website is operating legally' box on their website.

While the active ingredients may be identical the other bits that go in may not be. Additives are needed to some meds to keep the compounds stable, make it easier to swallow, mask horrid tastes etc. Strangely I find E45 cream stings like billy-o but cheap aqueous cream is generally fine. Same active ingredients but different additives to form the final product.
