No the house was his parents family home he grew up in they gave him it in March and gift deposited it and I had to sign solicitors to say no beneficial interest and not on deeds or spent any money on the house either - when I spoke to someone they said it should be fine so fingers crossed!!

You might claim those expenses against tax but that only reduces the net spend by your current rate of income tax, it does not get rid of them completely.
