Blood is in short supply so lets help (you could get free tea & biscuits!)

https://www.blood.co.uk

O- and B- is in short supply and blood donations have been down due to the recent hot weather.

I have posted this on the freebies as I think its important and in line with the freebies board, you usually get free tea & biscuits ;)

I'm a 40 plus donations blood donor , I can never get an appointment for a donor session locally as they are all fully booked and the last time I just turned up they sat me there for almost 2 hours .

I'm perfectly willing to donate but they've made it impossible

Thats a shame, people will stop donating if they make you wait 2 hours :(

My friend called up at the beginning of the week and got an appointment for yesterday. Maybe its area specific and some are harder than others?

I just wanted to add encouragement to everyone thinking about giving blood.

Quite simply, I wouldn't be here today without 'ordinary' people giving up an hour or so of their lives once in a while and doing the 'extra-ordinary' and giving blood...Equally, I would have been motherless on a couple of occasions had my mother not received the same life-giving gift!

I was a regular donor for some years - until my own health made donating an issue for me. I would reassure people who are a little uneasy, that it is NOT painful (other than the thumb-!!!!!...that could sting a bit!), and unless things have changed then the biscuits include custard creams! (And no one ever complained when I snaffled two of them!)

Please, folks, consider phoning and finding out where your nearest donor sessions is.

Completely agree with you, I gave my 66th donation last week and our sessions are now always appointment only. As I was sitting at the tea table a lady came in and sat down, she told us she was accompanying her husband who was donating, she was supposed to be donating also but had received a text a couple of hours ago cancelling her appointment due to staff shortages. The staff member at the tea table confirmed that they had cancelled a number of people booked for this session due to 2 staff being off sick. She said this never used to happen but nowadays the staff are so thinly spread that if even one is unexpectedly absent they have to cancel people due to all the safety regulations.

My husband, also a regular donor and O neg could not give at his May appointment and was not able to get another appointment until September.

I think there is a reason they are so short of blood and a lot of it is down to bad management of the service.

I would love to donate blood, but as I have pernicious anemia, I won't be accepted. Shame as otherwise I would have donated regularly.

If you can, please do - you will save lives.

I used to be a donor, but as a gay man they no longer wan't my blood - despite the fact that I know I'm HIV negative. Many promiscuous heterosexuals put themselves at risk and don't get tested regularly, but their blood is welcomed!

The rules were changed last year, so if I don't have sex for three months then I can now give blood. But I'm not that keen!

I'd just like to thank everyone who does donate.
