Solar PV during power cut

I was convinced the inverter required AC power to function.
Yesterday afternoon our local area suffered power cuts all afternoon.
During this time i was taking a business call over skype (wifi), prior i was watching TV which had been paused.
During the call i reset my house alarm twice, also hearing alarms going off in the distance. So clearly the power was being cut but i never lost wifi and when i returned to my tv after the call it was still on and paused in the same place.
So was my house being ran off solar PV?
I definitely had a power cut, my car stopped charging and the house alarm went off.

hi
In the event of a blackout, a typical grid-tied system has a special automatic shut-off, to prevent that extra energy from being sent over power lines that may be damaged. Its a safety feature intended to protect the line workers who go out to fix things when they break.
But that means your house does not get the solar power either. In a blackout situation, the power from your solar panels goes! nowhere.
