Help with BW Legal debt

Hope this is in the right place. So I have a defaulted credit card which is showing on my credit file from 2014. I had been lazy in the past but am now wanting to settle this debit to improve my credit file. My credit file with all agencies shows the debit is with Lowel Portfolio. I called lowel today who verfiied my details and detailed all the same informaiton I had from my credit file. The query I had with them was that I had not recieved any letters/call or emails since April 2017 and I wanted to know why. Apparently they had sold my debit on BW Legal. I have never heard of BW Legal nor have I ever recieved any correspondance from them. My concern is I have no proof I owe BW legal any money and even if I did my credit file show the debit with Lowel and I am concerned they will not clear this case on my credit file. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Ash,
I have moved your post to a new thread, as you may not get much response tagging onto someone else`s old thread.
Its not uncommon for debt purchasers such as Lowell, to farm out debts they have acquired.
BW Legal are a well known solicitor/debt collecting company, and will be acting on Lowells behalf.

Hi Ashbash1401 and welcome to MSE,
I would suggest sending an email or letter to Lowell. Ask them to confirm the balance owed and who you need to contact to arrange full payment (assuming that is what you are looking to do). The fact that they went through security with you, still had access to your details and are still reporting to your credit file would suggest they still own the debt, but perhaps BW Legal are acting on their behalf or had the debt for a time and now it has gone back to Lowell.
It is quite likely you will be contacted quickly with details of whether to pay Lowell or BW Legal. Before you pay, ask them to confirm, in writing, that your credit file will be updated to show that there is a £0 balance and the debt will be marked as fully settled. Once you have that, you can make the payment and keep an eye on your credit file to confirm it will be updated.

I agree with sourcrates:BW Legal are a well known solicitor/debt collecting company, and will be acting on Lowells behalf.
If you go to Lowells website, register:
https://www.lowell.co.uk/register/
you should see your account there. You can pay it off through the site, and also see if they are offering any discount. You'll also see if they have any other debts in your name0
