VW Up - window won't open!

Have a feel of the switch. Is there any wobble in it. VW window switches have a pair of microswitch in the base. The bottom is just a lump of plastic that fractures at its pivot point. It will still move but does not trigger the microswitch. I would still be tempted to swap the switch out to confirm if this is your problem. If both switches are the same you could swap them.
Most vw cars with remote central locking have a remote window open function. Hold down the unlock button on the key for a few seconds and the windows start to drop. Holding the lock button closes them. Not sure if you will have this on an up.0 -

No, there is no wobble in the switch itself. I doubt if I have opened the window on that side more than a few times in the three years that I have owned the car, so it definitely can't be worn.
It does have remote central locking, but don't think it has a remote window open function because it is only an Up!Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

You don't have to take it to VW for a fix, any competent garage or auto-electrician can sort it.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Just wondered if anyone knows roughly what a new electric window motor costs?
Today while car was being serviced and MOT'd the VW garage did some investigating on the window problem. Anyway they took the motor out and put it back in again and the window worked. However, they reckon that it might only be temporary and if it plays up again it will mean a new motor.
They were very busy when I went to collect the car and so I couldn't get an idea of the cost, so thought I would ask on here.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
I would say that as its been shut for so long the glass may well of stuck in the rubbers, Hope it stays working0

If they put the motor back and it worked i doubt the motor needs replacing,as said could be the glass sticking in the rubber runners, lower the glass and put a small amount of fairy liqued in the rubbers.0

Thanks for your replies. It is strange though that when it wasn't working there was no sound whatsoever - totally dead. I would have thought if the glass was sticking, the motor would still have made some noise, no?Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0
