VW Up - window won't open!

I only discovered this by chance, as I never normally open the passenger side front window. Just thought it would be nice to get a bit of a through draft rather than use the air con, but when I pressed the button it is completely dead, nothing happened at all - it didn't even make a noise.

Car is due for service and MOT next month and just wondered if anyone knows:

Roughly how much putting this right would cost - undoubtedly lots at a VW garage.

Would it pass its MOT without the passenger window opening? Is it a legal requirement that it does work? If not, I might just leave well alone because I never use it.

Bit miffed because the car is only 3 years old and, as I said, hardly ever used that.

I always said to my OH that I didn't want a car with electric windows because it is just something else that can go wrong and I was absolutely correct:)

If you're lucky it might be a fuse. Read the manual to see what else shares the passenger window fuse.

It isn't part of the MOT, as long as you can see out of the glass, and the door latches shut and can be opened from outside & inside it is a pass.

Isn't it under warranty at 3 years old?
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

No, unfortunately VW only give 3 years and it is well past that, closer to 4:(

I bet you have a button on the driver's door that disables all the other windows. My gf's Prius had this trouble but garage couldn't figure out!

Do you have a double switch on the drivers side and a single switch on the passenger side. If so try the window switch on the passenger side. If this works you have confirmed it is a fault in the drivers door switch. These are a few pounds on ebay and easy to swap. If neither switch works it is either the wiring where it enters the door or the motor has failed.

No it doesn't have that - not that luxurious! Just one switch on the drivers door and one switch on the passenger door.

When pressed it doesn't make any sound at all like there is a motor trying to work and, as I said before, it has hardly ever been used so shouldn't be worn out yet.

No, don't have a button like that. Just one on each door for each separate window.

Have you looked into what fuse it's on and checked whether that has blown yet as advised earlier in the thread?

If you have had it regularly serviced, then VW UK may offer some goodwill, as others have said it may just be a simple issue to resolve, connector dislodged, fuse ruptured.
