S.o.a.

Hey everyone, a mate of mine is taking the plunge and wants to know of these SOA figures look Ok.

He’s at college and works 20hrs per week earning around £870 a month. Single male etc

Board to parents. £450
Mobile Phone £25
Contact lenses £23
Food. £230
Buss Pass £55
Clothes £20
TV/Package £15
Holiday £ 20
Presents £ 15
Haircut. £14
Emergency fund £15
Dentist £15
Medical £10

Total outgoing £907. Leaving him £37 behind but will look to bring this back in out of other budgets.

    If anything, the only expense there that seems too high (mobile slightly, but not the worst I've seen) is board to parents. Granted it's teaching him to manage his finances, but £450 is more than half his income! If he was in his own room share - perhaps £300 a month for a room, council tax being 1/4 of maybe £125, gas, water and elec at £60. His parents are charging him a steep price lol.

    He could probably reduce his food bill a bit, but not by a significant amount.

    Rooms around here are around 375-430 a month anyway. His room is a massive double one with en suite etc. He's 36 as well so parents don't exactly want to encourage him to stay there haha.

    Are the food costs eating out etc or does he buy his own food at home/parents.

    Eats out sometimes (nothing flash I imagine) mostly eats at home. He's vegan too so doesn't eat what they eat.
