I definitely agree with cake crusader that you cannot afford £50 to take your daughter out and buy her food. Get food from a supermarket and a picnic if the weather is fine. If not, look for free or cheap things to do. It is you she wants to see. If your ex has moved her away then can she help with visits by driving her halfway to you?

  • You don't need to reply to this as I know it's personal, but if one parent moved away they can't expect the other parent to fork out to travel to see their child. Will your ex not meet you half way so you can save some petrol? You can do free things with your daughter, she just wants to spend time with you. Make a picnic and take her to the park, it'll cost you a sandwich, a drink and some fruit. Have you checked your benefit entitlement?

My ex plays real hard ball. I’ve always suggested meeting half way etc but to no avail. We don’t have the greatest of friendships and my daughter gets real bad car sickness etc. We have been to court in
the pass etc and nothing as really gone in my favour. My daughter is 7. It’s always been a real struggle too see her to be honest.

I forgot to mention I put away £150 In my fuel cost this covers me to see my daughter every 2 weeks.

I will start looking at picnics etc and cheap stuff to do! Thank you for all your help so far.
  • Can you sell the private number plate and get out of that loan? Definitely cancel the platinum account, gym and lottery. Can you use public transport for work or to see your daughter?

Your biggest problems seem to be lack of income and your car which is expensive to run proportionate to your income and part of the reason for this is presumably the long journey to see your daughter. How old is your daughter? The expenses need to be kept to a minimum so as hard as it is getting further into debt by not restricting expenses to see your daughter is unwise

Normally the reason for peoples outgoings being higher than income is debt when a DMP would be suggested. Your debt though is relatively low although getting rid of that private number plate loan by whatever means seems a good idea.

£1100 is a fairly low salary. Is there any chance of a better paid job in the future? Can you take on evening work or weekend work on a saturday?

Sorry I put my income as 1100 has I was off sick 2 days last month and I have been off sick 2 days this month so my September pay I should have an extra 140 in my wages + £50 from my Work loan which gets automatically out of my pay every month so this is my last month on that. So I will be better off £190 in September in my wages. And other option is an extra £30 for overtime on Sunday (only 3 hour shift) but always seems to drop on the Sunday I see my daughter.

I’m looking to start my own business adventure soon as I’m out of this debt with extra business ideas on the side etc.

Hi frogs442 and welcome to the forum

You've mentioned you put away £150 per month in fuel costs, which covers the cost of going to see your daughter. Is that on top of the £150 per month you have already budgeted for fuel?

You also haven't included anything for groceries, is your partner covering that? You will need to budget for car maintenance so you can afford repairs like the potential new clutch.

According to your SOA you should have £243 available for your debts (£1100 - £857). The debts you have listed show total monthly payments of £139.42. I'm just trying to see why you have run out of money for your bills. Is it because you missed something off your SOA or you've underestimated on some of your outgoings?

It's really important to have a thorough and accurate SOA, this will help us to get to the bottom of your financial difficulties and help advise you on your best options.

    Best wishes
