My workplace's environment is not healthy?

Can you wear headphones at your desk? If yes then you could do that and just ignore them.
You get tension in every office as people are forced to spend time with colleagues they dislike. You just need to act professional and don't get involved with any squabbles.
I guess that's what I have to do since it pays very well. Thanks!0 -
Are you sure the environment isn't healthy? Perhaps it's just that you need more time to settle...
If there really is tension, there may be good reason for it - and if so, it's worth you seeing if you can understand what this is and whether it's likely to pass - for example, it could just be a busy period and people are just that bit more stressed - and things may be different a few months down the line.
Maybe I could go ask the boss, right? So that I can understand what's going on and won't end up feeling it is unhealthy. Or maybe I could take your idea and just observe for a little while. The environment could somehow change.0 -

Have a chat with your manager (or their manager, if necessary). Not one where you're trying to get anyone in trouble, just to see if they can shed any light onto the situation and advise you how best to avoid involved or exacerbating it.
I can sympathise though, OP, I'm not into office politics and seeing as you probably spend 7-8hrs a day there "just ignore it" is probably not the best advice in the long run.0 -

Do your job and collect your salary. Let everyone else worry about their own jobsChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

I'd suggest that you keep quite and observe for a little bit before you start talking to your manager. It may be a temporary issue or a case of adjusting to a different environment.
Do you have a initial review with your manager when you have been there for a month or so? If you do, it might be worth raising it at that point, so its part of a larger conversation about how you are settling in,how you are coping with the work etc, rather than being an isolated issue which might come across as you complaining or criticising. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
Do not go over your managers head!
I was adding that due to the possibility that the manager could be one of sources of tension. Definitely wasn't suggesting doing it in any formal manner, more of a word in the kitchen or the like. Anything more formal would likely result in a terminated contract - the new worker is usually the most expendable.
Sitting back and observing so you understand the dynamics is definitely sound advice but its hard to gauge what the OP means when he just says tension. It could be natural office competitiveness and bravado, or it could be a toxic atmosphere that bleeds into everyone's ability to get their work done.0 -

If it made you smile then im pleased...life does seem stressful and then one day something happens and you see life/work balance differently and the smile returns.
Just be patient and things will either improve or you"ll take a new direction and be happy again.0
