Hello, I finally stopped burying my head in the sand!

Yes, if you are confident you can apply for and get new 0% deals. Throw every extra penny at the loan as it is the only debt accruing interest. I read your debt free diary, and as long as you have emergency savings or a credit card with money available then it makes sense to put extra in the loan. Because should the worst happen, you can change the payments on a CC to the minimum - you cannot do that for a loan as it is fixed.0

Electricity - I haven't done a tarriff check in a while but it's on the list. I don't have any central heating so in winter we used a lot of portable heaters which cost a lot.
Insurance- I usually pay in one go and my insurance last year was something like £470 but this year I have had an accident so I'm assuming it will be higher in October when it's up for renewal.
As I said when I was living on peanuts I really cut my spending right down to the absolute basics, hence why we have no TV, very little clothing costs and virtually no costs to hair since I now dye it myself and get literally one haircut per year. I am also not above charity shops for me or the boy. So yes my spending is pretty tight now!0 -
You'll probably see then I'm trying to get about 3 months salary as an emergency fund- at the moment it's one and a bit. Once the sodding balance transfer goes through I'll have a card free and clear with a £6000 limit that will be kept in the freezer for dire emergencies.0

Keep a bottle of vodka (or your choice of tipple) next to it too ;-) (not that I'm condoning drinking......too much)
I think you've made a great start, it's all about discipline and focus now.0 -
Okay no worries. Maybe cut out all the negative comments on your Husband and just put that he contributes £678 a month and then no one else will jump on it like i have.
You!!!8217;ve got some good advice so good luck dealing with the debts.0 -
Meh, he's the main reason why I'm in debt, I just don't need marital advice- I did say that upfront.0

If you are confident you will get further 0% deals as your existing ones expire I would target the loan first.
It is a condition of most mortgages that the property be insured and if they find out it is not they can ask for the mortgage to be repaid. I have never heard of insurance being refused because of renovations. If it caught fire or anything happened to it you would still have to repay the mortgage and pay to rebuild the house. I urge you to investigate that further.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. If your husband is the one who made you get like this then i think he should contribute. I know you don!!!8217;t want martial advice but think of this.
When you were little girl did you dream of being with a man who made you starve, did you dream of a man who doesn!!!8217;t help out with your problems even if he contributed to it.
Probably not. Seems like you know the issues but your letting him get away with it.
I do hope you get your debt cleared up and you have extra £500 to throw at the debts but you could get it cleared a lot quicker if he helped. Then you have more money for renovations.
I find it bizZare you can!!!8217;t get insurance.Mortgage free wannabe

Overpayment paused to pay off cc

Current balance £56099
Cc around £32000 -

But she has made it clear she is not here for marital advice. Can we please respect her wish on this?0
