LNER Quiet Coach

I have just booked a journey to London with LNER and have noticed they no longer provide a quiet coach in First class. They still do in second class. What an odd decision. This is what they say on their website:-

Please note: First Class no longer has its quiet coaches. This will give you more flexible space and greater freedom. But fear not lovers of the chill - First Class will remain an oasis of calm, as will our Standard quiet coaches.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Think there is a reasonable expectation that first class isn't full of people listening to music loudly or shouting or kids running riot

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

    If only...

I remember one dreadful journey (on Cross-Country, on a Saturday). First class full of chavs playing foul music on their mobile phones, and when I asked them to stop they suggested I might be more comfortable in the (second class) quiet coach.

These days, of course, Cross Country do not offer a quiet coach no matter how little (or much) you pay for your ticket...

On the few occasions I have been in first (Cross Country, Birmingham to London and vice versa), I've never had the issue but perhaps I got lucky - travelling on a Sunday afternoon and back weekday evening just normal people and a few who paid for an upgrade on the train

CrossCountry do offer a Quiet coach on a small selection of their services (the ones formed of 7 coaches; there are websites that show which services these are).

Assuming it's a class 91/Intercity 225 service I'd think it's a lot easier to offer a dedicated quiet standard class coach as there's five and a half standard class coaches vs just three for first class each of which is much lower capacity than standard class. That's just a guess though, you'd probably get a definitive answer on here:

I remember getting train back once and this couple were using 1 ipad each, their primary school age kids were each using latest iphone at the time and the parents had iphones of their own, both parents watching different things, both kids listening to loud kiddie tv or music the kids getting excited and yelling and not sitting down and the parents instead of calming them down just laughed and encouraged and told the kids how special they are.

To be fair the ticket conductor did tell them to respect other passengers but got excuses in return about lightening up, and they had a long day and the kids were tired.
