Hi guys i really need some advice or info on people previous dealings with barclaycard...Basically i moved to poland 3 years ago with my wife due to her personal family issues..Basically between my wife and i we used to clear about 6 grand every month, when we moved to poland my wife got pregnant and stopped working and my salary is 1/3 what it used to be in london.
the plan has always been to go back to london as soon as family issues are sorted so we were living off saving, when they ran out we started using barclaycard. We have about 15000 debt between both of us, and they idea was as soon as were back in uk on regular salary we clear the debt..
Anyway last week i found out we will have to stay permanently for the distant future, and then i received a letter from barclays saying if i don't have uk address and prove i am living there they will close the account....
but problem is i have no way to clear the debt.So i called them up few days agon and told them i can't make payments and told them my circumstances....and there is no way i can clear the debt now and because we staying i cannot take on anymore debt with no way to pay.....i cannot declare bankruptcy because. i have been out of uk for more than 3 years..I cannot declare bankruptcy in Poland due to my wifes profession...
Please help i have contacted various people with debt and have been told they cannot help because i am not in uk and i have been outisde for more than 3 years..:(

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your situation, but it is what it is.
Barclaycard probably will close down your account, you are unable to pay it, so its a stalemate.
All that will happen is they may send you letters asking you to pay, but that will be all, after a while your account will be sold on to some debt collector who will try and chase you for the money.
It is extremely unlikely they will know you are in Poland, and even less likelihood of them finding you there.
Basically, they will decide if its worth the cost, time and effort, put into tracing you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Well you may get letters then, thats all you will get.
If You havent got the money, you havent got the money, what are they going to do ?
Take you to court ? possibly yes, but usually they just sell on bad debt.
It may take a few months, even years for BC to sell your debt, the new debt purchaser may send you letters, but its very rare for them to do doorstep collections these days, especially in Poland.
They may employ a local outfit to hassle you, but anything can happen in a year or twos time, I would not worry too much about it for now.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
