They should have paid it into your pension.

    Bad form.

Still makes you wonder how they balance their payroll cost centers at the end of each month.

Exactly. They probably knew something was wrong but didn't have a clue how to find out what, so it got dumped into the "whoops hopefully someone will let us know where we messed up" file. It does seem to be what happens when you employ people who know how to press the right button but don't have a clue why they are pressing it.

Yes they should! It makes me wonder what else they are getting wrong. The P11D could be a concern if the OP gets one.

Interesting, how did that work from a tax perspective?
Not well, I had left the company when they found out so I got taxed. I can't remember if the amount included an uptick for tax, it was quite a while back.

Sadly at the time I was not at all savvy about pensions so I didn't check that my contributions were going in (it was employer only contributions, I was not making any from my salary). Nor did I think about the implications of a missed year of contributions. I just took the money and probably spent it as I was not focused enough on pensions back then.

Have any of your workmates experienced the same issue?

May be irrelevant but I worked for a reasonably big company in private ownership -they used to hold back pension contributions every now and then ,to help out their cash flow!!!

Funnily enough, they have been known to do this with paying the bills.
I've passed it to HR who say they are looking into it...

I'd be passing it to the police if they don't get it straight! :money:

Do you really think that the police would get involved? No chance whatsoever.
