Employer has not been paying my additional contributions to pension company

They should have paid it into your pension.

Still makes you wonder how they balance their payroll cost centers at the end of each month.

Exactly. They probably knew something was wrong but didn't have a clue how to find out what, so it got dumped into the "whoops hopefully someone will let us know where we messed up" file. It does seem to be what happens when you employ people who know how to press the right button but don't have a clue why they are pressing it.0 -
Interesting, how did that work from a tax perspective?
Sadly at the time I was not at all savvy about pensions so I didn't check that my contributions were going in (it was employer only contributions, I was not making any from my salary). Nor did I think about the implications of a missed year of contributions. I just took the money and probably spent it as I was not focused enough on pensions back then.0 -

May be irrelevant but I worked for a reasonably big company in private ownership -they used to hold back pension contributions every now and then ,to help out their cash flow!!!
Funnily enough, they have been known to do this with paying the bills.
I've passed it to HR who say they are looking into it...0 -
