Urban Decay Eyeliners Grrrrrr

Let me start by saying I love Urban Decay makeup, its the brand I mostly buy, but because I tend to get through a lot of black eyeliner I always went for cheap stuff.

Anyway, last week I decided to treat myself to the box set of 6 colours, including black that Boots have on offer. As UD eyeliners are around £9 singly and the ones in the pack are only slightly shorter I thought it was a bargain......it wasnt.

Ive used the black one maybe half a dozen times. Its beautifully soft and glides on, stays put all day. but can you sharpen the beggars? Not a chance. I now have a pencil barely 2 inches long because it just keeps falling apart. Ive put it in the fridge and sharpened it cold etc and it still just crumbles.

I dread to see how the other 5 colours perform......I emailed UD earlier and had a bit of a moan so we'll see what happens.

Can anyone recommend a decent eyeliner???!!!

  • Are you talking about the 24/7 eyeliners? Because I've got them in black and purple. I find the black one is harder and easier to sharpen (though it's still a "soft" pencil) but the purple one is, as you say, "crumbly" and never makes a sharp enough line.
Although I like the colour, I won't buy that one again.
I do think, for lasting a long time on my eyes, they are the best I've used though.

yes thats them! Ive managed to sharpen the chopper one fine, but Ive given up on the black now :(

Urban decay have basically said deal with Boots. Their loss as I would have bought the full size £9 one.
  • Bought these only yesterday so can't comment on the sharpening problem (can you maybe use a knife rather than a sharpener?).

But so far I'm massively impressed. Pretty colours. Nice easy application. STAYS where I put it!!!

Anyone used the lip stain? I'm sooo tempted but its not cheap.

I use the lip stain in "Gash", again gorgeous! tastes fantastic and really stays put. Very worth it. I cant really fault the "stayability" of UD.

I do love the pencils, I agree they stay on brilliantly, but is it worth paying £9 for a full size one that doesnt last past one sharpen??

I dont like using knives to sharpen them, I wear very gothic like eye makeup and it generally requires a sharp tip that you just cant get with a knife. After leaving it in the freezer all day I have managed to sharpen it to a small blunt stump so it will have to do for now :o
  • I also wear a lot of black eyeliner and have tried numerous different brands- including all of the premium ones who have counters near me and my 2 all time faves are Elizabeth Arden and Body Shop.

I always use the felt tip style eyeliners.

Benefit is really nice too, the Bad Gal stuff.
  • I use a pencil sharpner like this one:

I use the fat hole. It helps to keep the pointed bit short, like when you first buy them. I find that if th point is sharp it doesn't break off.

    Hope that helps

I must have tried hundreds, one of the best I've found is Barry M's, and its £2.95! :D
If it hurts no-one, let it be
  • pulliptears, try Clinique's cream brush on eyeliner. It is fab, in a little pot with the best applicator brush I have tried so far. Gives a really nice pointy flick very easily and I even managed to get some pretty little designs coming off with it too.
