Old owner's post

Because I pay for re-delivery service and because I text my ex-landlord every now and then asking him if there is anything for me still being delivered at my old address. If he says yes, I collect the post and inform the people that I might have forgotten to inform that I have changed address.lookstraightahead wrote: »We have all been in this situation from both sides - how do you know that no mail of yours goes to your old addresses?
None of this seems to be happening with the old owners. If they had given me a forwarding address, or at least asked me to tell them if I receive anything for them, that would have been a different story.
As I said before, my problem is not the post I receive (it's hardly annoying, just put it aside and forget about it), rather the total lack of interest from the old owners. If they don't care, why should I?0 -
I still get all sorts of stuff for the previous occupants of my house, including some that are quite important. Obvious spam goes in the recycling but I now open up anything that looks important and if it is, it goes back in the post with a "no longer at this address" on it. Some companies clearly don't receive them or if they do, don't bother to do anything about it. My predecessors have paid £89 a year for plumbing and drains cover for the six years I've lived in the house! I couldn't ever claim on the policy of course so it's a nice profit for the insurer. I'm also not interested in the two magazine subscriptions they continue to pay for each month. They must never check their bank statements.0

I know and I don't care, as long as I am not responsible for them.
You can ignore/chuck in the bin letters...however be aware of the possibility
that this will be all fine until the day comes when the debt collectors asking for this former owner/occupier arrive on your doorstep and then it will certainly be YOUR problem to convince them that you are not the former owner/occupier.
So I'd be making considerable efforts to stop the mail0 -
Yes its been discussed before, just mark it as return to sender and send it back.
Maybe they have gone to the other side, moved abroad.
Maybe you have answered the question but have you informed the companies involved that the person doesn't live there anymore ?0 -
No, it will be debt collectors' problem to prove that the OP is the former occupier. And they are used to the concept of people moving house.this will be all fine until the day comes when the debt collectors asking for this former owner/occupier arrive on your doorstep and then it will certainly be YOUR problem to convince them that you are not the former owner/occupier.0 -
No, it will be debt collectors' problem to prove that the OP is the former occupier. And they are used to the concept of people moving house.
Either way I don't think the OP will want the hassle of debt collectors at the door.
Personally if I were the OP I would not bother going through the old post (too time consuming) and just get rid of it all. However I would from today start putting aside the important letters and write on those not lived here since xxx date, and bin the junk mail. Kept the important ones to one side pre written on and take with you next time you need to post a letter.
It does not take long to write on 2-3 letters per day and put them in a box.0 -
Chuck them in the bin. They do stop eventually even if you don't return to sender.
"It doesn't take long..." Oh so what?! Loads of stuff I don't do doesn't take long and loads of that stuff is a lot more important than sorting out other people's post.0 -

Just write return to sender on them and put them in a post box. Items do get through the redirection and get wrongly delivered.
I'm fine if people want to throw out any mail at any of my previous addresses....0
