in Cutting tax
Good afternoon all,
I was recently in a job for 4 years where the company provided study support and paid for me to study the CIMA professional exams. At the time I had to sign a contract to say, if I was to leave I would pay a percentage back to the company. At the time my company pushed me to do these exams to both benefit myself and also the company because they wanted two qualified accountants. After 3 years I left the company because of another employment closer to home and agreed to pay back £2500 to the company in the 17/18 tax year. This included a majority of my study and subscription to the governing board.
Am I able to claim tax back on the courses I took and subscriptions paid?
In my new employment, again my employer wishes me to complete my study as part of my contract but is not helping to pay my courses and fees. This has amounted already to £2200 in this tax year.
Please help to find out what my rights are.
Many thanks
