Thank you Kirsty for some positive advice, feeling a bit foolish tbh.
The SC site looks familiar but it sounds like I got duped somewhere along the way to the tune of about £500 so far. I will contact the real SC tomorrow when I have all the details to hand and hopefully we can agree another route out of this particular abyss

You can cancel your current agreement straight away and put in a complaint about the fees you have paid.
Sounds to me like you were not fully aware of what you were signing up to, and in my book that demands a full refund of fees.
