bulging inner tube

Whilst out cycling, the back wheel tyre seemed to start bumping along as if it was a slow puncture. The tyre stayed up however. No puncture was found after checking the inner tube. Just a biggish bulge near the valve area. Bought a new inner tube and no problems since. Was this correct to do and also, to keep or throw away the original inner tube? Thanks.

If it's bulging chances are tyre was not fitted properly (which changing the tube sorted, indicating your tube is ok). Other possibility is the tyre wall is failing - keep an eye on it if it bulges at the same place

A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Thanks Nasqueron. I don't think it was the first possibility so will keep an eye on whether a new tyre is needed.

The inner tube cannot bulge out unless either the tyre isn't seated on the rim properly or the tyre is damaged (in which case you'd expect it to bulge in the same place with the same pressure). Either way keep an eye on the fitting especially around the valve, I often have to push the tyre down and/or pull the valve down to ensure it doesn't push up the tyre and create the gap

    Thanks Nasqueron,

It does seem an awkward task putting the inner tube and tyre back on. No problems so far with the newly fitted inner tube.

Don't thow away the old tube - this is MSE. you never know when you want a bit of rubber to stop something squeaking or seal something.

Chances are it was just fitted properly this time. The tyre around the valve is often a real pain to get to stay on, I've done plenty and still after fitting them carefully, gone to check after inflation and noticed the tyre isn't sitting with the bead against the rim. I tend to now pull the tube down by the valve until the tyre is on, then push it up a bit when starting to inflate so the tube pushes out against the tyre and holds it in place

Thanks for the further replies. I had already kept aside the inner tube. I always try and think of a use(s) for anything.
