Different pensions all over the shop

Hi

I'm 50 next year and have a chequered history of work experience and different pensions that I've paid into at different times. I've not been very good at keeping check and need some advice about what to do so I can understand where I am.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Are there reputable financial people who will track my pension pots down for me and then advise what is the best thing that I can do?

Don't you get yearly statements from them? I've got several private/DC pensions and get correspondence about them every year.

You can do it for yourself pretty easily - and without paying hefty costs to a third party who would only use the same sources open to you! Also worth getting a state pension forecast.

Not if you haven't told them you've moved...

Start by making a list, use the pensions tracing services and the make sure each provider has your current address.

You may be able to find a phone number for each scheme and speak to someone who can tell you when the statements are sent out.

I just tried the pension link.com out of curiosity and it doesn't recognise my NI number. Does it work for anyone else?

Jut tried it - yes, worked fine. Are you getting the message that your NI number isn't recognised, or that nobody on the register has a pension associated with your NI number?

and ask for a current statemtn on each.

Then, seperate between a DB/final salary pension (such as from a public service provider) and a dc/money purchace type pension.

The first type? Generally give them your current address and get a statement and keep it there. It will grow with inflation until you retire. The 2nd type? might be good to leave or put it in your current penison. Depends o the detail.

Once you get details of all of them, come back here and post details and you will get help.

Looking at the site it would appear that the database only includes details of pension schemes that have paid to be included on the database. I can't see any details of how many schemes hav actually done this but it would appear it is by no means comprehensive.
