Claiming back ground rent.

Hi,
My mum has been going through her documents recently and she noticed all her documents regarding the house, mortgage, land searches, solicitors say the land is freehold and she has the certificate which passes the ground from the previous owners to her.
However she has been paying ground rent since the day she moved in. When I asked why, she said that with the all the stress of moving out they didn't think much of it when the bill came in and just paid.
How is it best to claim this back from the company who has been charging her?
Should she see citizen advice or solicitor or do you think the company who has been charging her are likely to admit their mistake and refund her?
Any advice welcome
Thanks

Not sure how a company could "mistakenly" charge someone ground rent.
Do any neighbours pay a charge?
What does it actually say on the invoices your mum receives, does it say ground rent or some other term like rent charge for example?

What do you mean claim it back?
Step one is to contact the company and ask them for an explanation.
Ground rents on freehold properties are not unknown.
