    Yes: it was late in 1984 that 'Saver' fares were first introduced. Before then, all tickets were flexible and hence as expensive as the most expensive tickets now.

    This morning I booked a return to Margate from London Stratford, travelling tomorrow. No Railcard.

    Would have been £27.20 return each, which is reasonable anyway but there is a promotional return and so only cost £20.
    Having a day out with the other half tomorrow.
