Lowells & EDF

Hello Good Peoples :)

I am looking for a little help dealing with Lowells Finacial LTD. I sent a prove it letter about 10 days or so ago from a supposed debt to EDF Energy claiming i owe £1065. Lowells have send me a letter dated 16th July offering me a 50% discount.

What letter, and section do i copy and paste to send them. I'm not sure which one covers my situation

Thanks

Regards,
Ben

What do you want to do. Reject it, pay it, object...

Do you agree with the debt, or not
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Well i sent them a prove it letter and i dont think them sending me an offer of a 50% discount is proof? What i would like to know is what do i do next, i don't intend paying this thats for sure.

I've also looked at my credit report 'Experian' & 'Checkmyfile' and i see no record of this what so ever. Why do these letters keep coming if i have asked them to not contact me until proof has been served to me?

    Thanks

Lowell is a very big organisation, with many different departments.

If you do not receive a response to your letter in the next two weeks, then send a reminder to them, making it clear they must provide evidence of liability.

As a starting point you want to know what property this is, and what period it relates to. This sounds like a year's worth of electricity that they think you haven't paid for.

It also sounds like they are either unsure you are the debtor, or this is 6 years old (statute barred), hence the big discount as an opening offer. They appear to have bought a lot of dodgy debts recently and are chasing whoever they can.

Be careful, and ask for a copy of the bill!! EDF have done this to me too, and I've found evidence to suggest it wasn't a bill at all, but an 'estimated future usage' bill. My usual bills were £150 a quarter, this estimated future usage bill was for £750 and they had totally ignored my final meter readings. I have no intention on paying it (it's statute barred anyway).

I can't believe they've sold a made up future usage bill to a collections agency to be honest. It was probably sold for pennies in the pound, but it shows how desperate Lovell are for your cash. Tell Lovell that you'll need to see a full copy of the bill. :)

Not wanting to appear as an apologist for the debt purchasing fraternity, but these accounts are bought up in bulk portfolio`s, so they won`t know what they have got until its chased up.

Creditors don`t keep bad debt very long, they off load it in bulk, so you get a mix of everything.

I'd forgotten about this, thank you! :)
  • Thanks for the advice guys,

I'll hold out see if anything else comes of this, think they'll have about 4-5 days left to respond to my prove it letter. i'll let you all know if anything comes of this

    Thanks

They take ages! It took Lovell 5 weeks to reply to my first 'prove it' letter (which has the wrong connection dates on it), and I'm still waiting for them to come back with the 'original creditor copy statements of the account' (which they've already told me they can't get as these were destroyed by the creditor after 1 year, so they said), it's been waiting since the 1st June for these. I'm not sure if there's a point where I can just give up, or whether I have to wait for a letter.

I have had this too. They want me to pay a mostly statute-barred debt relating to an address I have never lived at. My approach at the moment is to let them take ages to respond, because every month, more of the supposed debt becomes statute barred.
