First day without meat

Good evening all,

Well we have had our first day meat free and i mus say it was a roaring success!! We has poached egg on toast for breakfast, well more brunch really, DD had the same before school, then DD had a vegetarian meal at school, pasta with a spicy tomato sauce, then i made a 3 bean chilli with brown rice for tea, all 3 of us agreed that we had not missed the meat! I feel so proud of us all.

Now my query, I made quite a big pot of the 3 bean chilli so i have quite a bit left, can i freeze it? I thought i had read somewhere that you could not reheat beans, I used cannellini, black eyed and red kidney, all tinned, is it ok to reheat these?

Thanks

Well - if it aint okay to freeze them - then I'm in trouble too - as I regularly do.

I also get virtuous sometimes and soak and cook a bag of dried beans and freeze them in several portions (ready to put a bags worth of them frozen in with whatever sauce I am cooking) - saves money on tinned ones.

Most beans freeze really well in things like chilli, curry and bean burgers, just defrost when you need them and heat through thoroughly

Absolutely fine to freeze them. I do it all the time. It'll taste even better next time too - the flavour seems to get richer when left a day or so.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • Yep is fine to refreeze beans in a made dish - have done so quite happily in the past ! :) and reheated them too.... I think its a case of being careful as with all cooked food to chill down and store/freeze correctly and reheat thoroughly.
