Unpaid HGV Driver

Hi, posting on behalf of a friend who I am helping out. Looking for some advice / help from you knowledgeable people ............
He worked three shifts in October 2017 for an HGV company based in NI but drove on UK mainland and has proof that he completed two of the shifts (he can't find the third as yet) by way of the tacho printouts.
Four emails and three phone calls later we eventually get someone to acknowledge his request for payment of the shifts by confirming they have received the emails. However, they are saying they can't accept the printouts as proof as they are only allowed to accept a download and can't pay him.
Apparently, this person is going to confirm this statement in writing via email but I'm not holding out much hope as we have been promised a response before and are still waiting.
Has anyone had any experience of this situation before??

No harm in asking on Truck Net UK forum, professional driver's section. I see similar questions asked occasionally0

Was the driver engaged as a self-employed driver or on PAYE? My partner is having similar problems with one of her customers. Because she was engaged by them on a self-employed basis, she is able to use the Late Payment of Commercial Debt Act to claim interest and compensation for the cost of chasing the late payment. We've just sent them a letter before action, and are hoping that they pay up because she has enough evidence that she did the work asked of her to satisfy a court. You might try the same route; if the company receives legal advice that its policy won't work in court as a defence, they may just pay up to avoid further legal and court costs. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0
