jobs without a DBS check?

Twistershoot, what kind of jobs are you interested in?
I think you will find that any job which involves working with vulnerable people such as children, patients or elderly or disabled people will require one.
A job which involves handling money may well require one, particularly if the role would involve dealing with bank accounts (retail jobs maybe not so much)
I think for a lot of employers, whether they would employ someone with convictions will depend on
(i) the type of work
(ii) the type of offence
(iii) how recent it was
(iv) the number of convictions
Larger organisations may have specific policies
As a previous poster suggested, speak to NACRO who may be able to help with more specific advice if you tell them what you conviction(s) are and what sorts of jobs you are looking for.
I’m cleaning empty rooms and require a dbs check. What you mentioned above would be part of an enhanced one?0 -
Twistershoot...
I won’t go into my past conviction because It’s a open forum but from experience I have found been open, honest and following policies and procedures is the best way forward.
You may as well forget anything that is to do with a vulnerable group for example the elderly, children or individuals with learning disabilities to name a few.
If an application form doesn’t ask about criminal convictions then you are under no obligation to share, if asked at interview stage or at the point of an offer, then obviously you are obliged to tell them unless your conviction has become spent,
Again though, even if not asked but you are aware the role is going to require a DBS check I would still be honest because obviously it’s going to be revealed on the DBS check, but as others have said, it’s still down to the employer.
I have a conviction, was always honest, it never stopped me getting interviews, been offered jobs and even jobs that required a DBS as I was honest up front.
At the moment I’m in the position of looking again, I was made redundant, my conviction isn’t spent yet so have been honest on everything and still have interviews lined up and again that’s with one role with a DBS check required.
Best advice, don’t lie, be honest and up front and follow the law.
Nacro and Unlocked are excellent organisations please use them for support!0 -

I disagree - its all dependent on the conviction, background and subsequent behaviour. I work with many services that have a fair number of staff with convictions (usually spent to be fair) BUT if it is usually a long time ago with no recent offending then its considered on a case by case basis.
However if its an abuse/assault conviction against a vulnerable person then I would agree that your chances are extremely low as most organisations won't be prepared to take the risk.0 -
Depends on what the offence was it might be filtered from a DBS check anyway so the employer will never see it.

A basic DBS will only show unspent convictions also.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Are there some jobs that don't require a DBS and if so which ones please. I'm working with a man who has a conviction and he doesn't want a DBS0
-
Most jobs don't require one0

Is it spent? He still might have to declare.0

Most jobs don't, but even those that don't require DBS may ask about convictions.
However, I'd strongly recommend that you or he gets specialist help from an organisation such as NACRO on how to disclose. (On my phone so not easy to do links, Google will get you there.)Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Most jobs dont.
Most that do will generally say so in the job spec.
If his conviction isnt spent he must declare it if asked.0 -

And when or even IF to disclose - ie, if they dont ask then he is under no obligation to disclose, and if the conviction is spent he is under no obligation to disclose even if asked (because the question asked i think must take the form of 'have you any convictions unspent under the...' format.0
