in Cutting tax
I recently received a P800 advising me of some additional tax that I need to pay for 17-18. I phoned the tax office advising them that I prefer to send a payment in full rather than have my 18-19 tax code adjusted to collect the O/S tax. For some reason, I do not see the O/S tax amount on my online tax account, so not able to pay online. I asked the tax office to send me a paying in slip so that I can make payment through my bank. Instead, they sent me a slip to fill in my details and send in the post. Very reluctant to do this as I would not know if payment had been received or indeed that it had been offset against my O/S tax. The letter from HMRC states that they do not send receipt of payment and that I should check my bank account to see when the cheque had been cashed.
I came across 2 HMRC accounts for Cumbernauld and Shipley for making payments. When I mentioned these accounts to HMRC, I was informed that they are only for self-assessment and that I can't use them for PAYE.
Has anyone got any advise? Should I send a payment in the post?
Not happy about not having something in writing in case something goes wrong and I don't have proof of payment.

Given that the payment is not due until January 2019 there is plenty of time before then for you to follow up if for some reason the cheque doesn't come out of your account, so I'd just send it in by post.0

Where it does not allow you to pay via the PTA, PAYE underpayments can only be paid by cheque using that form which you post to HMRC.

There is no other way to do it electronically - it is an old process from the old pre-2009 days of PAYE where the computer was designed when everything was cheque or cash.
They will not issue a receipt but once the money has gone out you should be able to call HMRC to check it had been allocated correctly and to ask for a letter confirming so.0 -

Thank you for taking an interest to explain this payment procedure. You would think that when HMRC have spent millions of pounds to update their computer systems. they would put something in place to allow everyone to make payments online. And as for not issuing a receipt, it's simply unacceptable. Any commercial business would issue a receipt for a payment. Why not themBefore doing something... do nothing0
