    Pardon?

Bit of a pointless snide comment, unless you are building up post count.

    I think that's a bit snide too.

It wasn't pointless. Actually it's a well known ploy - post on completely random threads with random posts and then spam the website. I'm surprised that you've never come across this before.

Nothing wrong with M&S - but buying a bra is like buying shoes. Just because you measure a size 5 doesn't mean that all size 5s will fit or suit you.

So, get measured, find bras that you like, try them on in the size you were measured at, but be prepared to move up or down a size depending on the style of bra you fancy.

Don't add numbers to the under boob measurement - it is what it is. I measure 36 and wear a 36. Then up a cup size for every inch bigger your fullest bit is. I would say if the underwire isn't touching your body between your boobs you need to go up in the cup size.
I'm blessed/cursed depending on your view with 36 JJ assets and only ever buy Fantasie ones. Freya also cater for bigger ladies (Bravissimo stock both). I would also say anything above a DD you go somewhere other than M&S as although they make them bigger....they don't increase the strap width so it's like cheese wire trying to sever your arms from your body - well done M&S design team.

I'm a FF/G cup and certainly wouldn't recommend Marks - the ones there fitted said fitted, quite clearly didn't. For years I would go to John Lewis to be measured and normally buy at least one there and then get the same brand/model online. Recently I was recommended Boux Avenue - never even thought they would have anything to fit me, the fitter there was amazing, spent ages with me I ended up with one F one FF and one G all different styles they all fitted slightly differently - but they are all so comfortable and 2 of them were in the sale at £14 each! result.

There is if you are a larger cup size. They don't stock much in larger cup sizes, so will try and tell you that you have a smaller cup size but a larger back size.

I changed from M&S to Bravissimo back pre-kids, and M&S had said I was a 40DD, despite the strap going right up at the back. On a friends recommendation I tried Bravissimo, and was fitted as a 32G.
It was amazing how comfortable a bra can be when it fits properly, and how much better it makes you look and feel.

Yes some bra shops will try and get a sale even if they don't stock your size, so say 'go up a back size', but that won't provide any support as the support is mostly from the back. I've had that where they've tried to persuade me to buy a bra from there (all I wanted was knickers) and I said 'you don't go to my size' and they said you can get back extenders or go up a back size... Luckily I knew my size from Bravissimo!
  • I tried loads of the online calculators and got all different sizes ranging from A-E, none gave the same size. It is totally mental. I do want to get properly measured but I worry about being pressured into buying!
