Correcting Electoral Roll errors ! ??

Hi,
I've recently subscribed to https://www.checkmyfile.com and found out that there are glaring mistakes in the Electoral Roll information for all three agencies. Depending on the agency, I'm either completely missing off the Electoral Roll or 'not matched' at one or more of the three addresses I've had in the last six years. I can see that some of the errors are down to misspelling my name, but why I'm not even listed on others defeats me !
I've just rang the Electoral whatsit office in the local council and they have confirmed that I am on the register for all three addresses - though they have my name misspelled at the oldest address. I've looked at the three agencies' websites and they all say they need written confirmation from the Electoral office before they will correct the errors. However, the council say they want ten pounds to send me a letter confirming my details !!
I don't think it's fair that I should have to even be doing this - i.e. trying to correct their mistakes - never mind having to pay for the priviledge !
Anyone got any tips ?
