HMRC say no tax relief on pension contribution as I'm a 20% tax payer

    Yes, when I originally worked out how much I could contribute I added the amount I thought I'd get back in tax relief too and assumed that would be added to my contribution. However after a very long and stressful procedure HMRC sent me a revised P800 letter advising me of an over payment of tax which I claimed back direct into my bank account. I could put this into my pension but I've been really put off by the whole experience. So much for being encouraged to plan for your future and add to your pension!

    Yeh i can see why ! However you should be able to add it to any normal pension such as a SIPP without this hassle since its part of their normal process to add the tax relief on unlike your employers pension.
