That would indeed be the best option I would guess, however I am in work from 8pm til 6am. So not an option.

Seems like the Limitation Act 1980 provides the relevant answer however.
Is there no one else in the household?

The ability to repay is not in question. What is in question is whether they could enforce said debt after being given numerous opportunities to claim the money and not taking up that offer.
Other than the Milkman simply ceasing to trade and never collecting what he is owed, I can't think of any scenario where you will escape this debt.

But if the milkman doesn't collect for six years, you can spend the money! :D

You work from 8pm until 6am seven days a week? I find it hard to believe there is never a time when you are free to catch the milkman on his rounds and ask if you can set up a regular payment direct to his bank account.

If he continues to fail to collect, I expect he'll swiftly end up out-of-business anyway and your "problem" will be solved.

Milk is cheaper in the supermarket anyhow, so using a milkman is not in the spirit of money saving..

Only each part that becomes six years old in turn, of course. About £8 a week.

Write a cheque for the amount you owe and leave it in an envelope in one of the empty bottles?

Actually, is this one of those nonsense moral money dilemnas usually posed by the mods on a slow day?

Far far too much information for it to be one of those...

    Ask for his bank details.

How is the limitations act a solution?
