I would of thought Halifax would be more interested where the deposit has come from, ie not from their customer and demanded a letter stating the deposit is a gift from you to your daughter, then your daughter to her husband and you or your daughter has no financial interest in the property.

Something has not been explained properly, do they know the deposit origin?

The OP has stated son-in-law which would imply married. The house would be a joint asset as all assets are if you are married hence the daughter must have a financial interest in the house.

I think I would complain to Halifax and go elsewhere. This is like going back a hundred years when women could not own property, it all had to be in the husband's name.

Moneyfacts.co.uk have a best mortgage deal calculator or try a broker. Some brokers still work on just getting the commission from the bank so it need not cost any more than going direct, and if you have already checked out the deals on moneyfacts you have a good idea of what is a good deal. You might even save money over the Halifax deal as when I looked recently Halifax didn't appear anywhere near the top of the list (for my son anyway).

There is no point in making a complaint to a lender about their lending policy. They choose who they lend money to. If it doesn't fit their policy then you have applied to the wrong lender.

Which on the second point makes moneyfacts a useless exercise as well. Straight to a broker with this one.
