Teeth Whitening...what can I drink?

Options
I'm having my teeth whitened in a few weeks time. I've been to the dentist and had the mould impression thingy done and I've got to go back in a few weeks time to collect it and the gel that I have to use every night, I'm not having laser treatment, I'm doing it myself at home. I know that whilst I'm doing it there is certain things I'm not suppose to drink.

I know there's a few dentist that post on here and I'm just wondering if coffee or tea is a total no no. I'm trying to organise a cream tea with friends for my birthday and I'm wondering if a couple of cups of tea or coffee would hurt, I could clean my teeth straight afterwards. I've got secondary sjogrens and my dentist prescribed me Duraphat 5000 tooth paste, which I am assuming is better than normal tooth paste. I have tried to google it but can't seem to find the answer. I have asked the receptionist at my dentist only to be told I will get an instructions sheet at my next appointment.

I wouldn't have thought one afternoon tea on your birthday is going to affect anything.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

As long as you wait an hour after the bleaching trays have been romoved from your mouth and you wait for your saliva to kick in then you can drink what you want again

You should definitely avoid red wine, black tea and coffee.

That's what it says on the instruction sheet - but I try and take a slightly more realistic approach with my patients.

The odd glass, or cup during treatment isn't going to hurt so long as it's not immediately after the gel has been on (So a cup of tea or coffee first thing in the morning is probably best avoided)

The less you have, the better - but I wouldn't put a total ban on it for the whole time the treatment takes.

If you really do drink loads of the stuff (Or indeed if you smoke) and can't control any of these habits - then having the treatment in the first place is probably going to be a waste of money.

Thanks everyone for your replies most appreciated.

Thankfully I don't smoke, kicked that habit many years ago. I do like red wine, but I can live without red wine for a while, I'm not looking forward to the no coffee but though, I like at least two cups in the morning. Think I'm going to have an headache from caffeine withdrawal. Paracetamols on standby I think.

Thanks Toothsmith for saying I can have a cup of something with my cream tea, didn't want to sit there looking silly sipping water.

JEN22 ....I'm afraid that my mouth doesn't make as much saliva that a healthy person does, dry mouth is one of the things I have to put up with with having sjogrens, hence toothpaste on prescription.

Just wondering if after it's done I should switch to white wine, but I do give my teeth a good clean every night before I go to bed.

Many thanks again to you all.
