Week 3 - Day 3
Grocery day today. Went to 3 different supermarkets including Costco to make sure I was getting what I needed for the best price. Despite my best efforts, I was 63p over our £65 budget, and I can't tell you how irritating that is:rotfl: Each time I got to the check-out I waited with anticipation for the totals. It's like a game! Bit sad....
Menu for this week:
Puff pastry tart (block of pastry in the freezer that I'd forgotten about; green pesto; spinach, cherry tomatoes, antipasto artichokes and mozzarella)
Cottage pie (+ one for the freezer)
Turkey meatball gyro with tzatziki
Homemade pizzas (by far the most economical and delicious thing I make!)
Black bean chilli, rice and soured cream
Chicken, edamame and ginger pilaf
Pasta with pesto and salad
New job on the cards, involving retraining at university, but I'll have a salary throughout. It's an opportunity I cannot turn down. I will earn slightly more now, and significantly more in 2 years. However, DS is going to have to be in nursery full-time and transport for me is going to be expensive. I have to commute to my nearest city, about 20 miles away. I've explored all of the options, and so far a student bus pass is the cheapest at £100 a month. I can park for free in town and take the bus. I registered with a local lift share website, but haven't had any luck so far. So this is an expense I'm squeezing into the budget. On the plus side, I will have an NUS card and discounts, which will help to balance the books.
Thanks Kitten868, I'm having a good look at your suggestions. The book selling website is an excellent idea, and as I'm having zero success on the FB selling groups, I will be sending my books to Webuybooks. Have meetings this week with my letting agent re: selling my flat. They will market it for me, and only charge a one-off fee, no commission which is positive. Haven't even thought about Christmas yet! I did consider saving a small amount up, but to be honest I'd rather get rid of the debt. We're visiting family this year, so no food to buy. I will buy small gifts and also planning to make some lovely body scrubs and lotions to give as gifts. I'll worry about it after I have a few months of budgeting under my belt!July 2018 -£34,581.02 Snowball Plan first victim - Overdraft 1 - £260/£1800 Debt-free April 2020:T0 -
Great news about the job, sounds like an excellent opportunity! Well done!
