Suspended State Pension Forecasts

Have just read that the Dept of Work & Pensions are suspending the issue of all state pension forecasts for anyone who will reach pension age after April 5, 2010. This will apply to women born after April 5 1950 and men born after April 1945. Apparently this suspension will continue until Autumn 2008 and is to allow them to programme certain legislative changes into the forecasting system, including how years spent caring for children will be covered. So if anybody is planning to retire after 2010 and wanted to make up back contributions, it looks as if they will now have to wait a year before they will know what their situation is.

I rang the helpline and someone told me it will be up and running in May. They were very helpful, give them a ring if you need any information.

You should still be able to get information on back contribution availability from them. Also information on total years that count so far so you know if it may make sense to pay for past years.
If you ask they are likely to be able to tell you your income for every year since you started working and whether that year counted. They did for me.0
