Secondment on higher salary than me

Hi,
We have agreed to take on an internal secondment to cover maternity leave. My team is two people. Me, and the lady going on maternity.
My manager copied me on an email today which further down the thread had the secondments salary on, which is £2k more than what I’m on. She’s worked at the company longer than me but has no experience in this department so will need full training, which I’ll be providing!!
So I’m a bit resentful that I’m training someone in every aspect of the job and they’re on a higher salary than me...is it worth raising this to my manager??
Thanks
Kate

Pick your fights wisely, I wouldn't suggest this is worth taking on.
If it's really sticking in your craw, second into backfilling her vacancy (tongue in-cheek).Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
What would you hope to achieve by doing so - and how likely is it that you'd achieve what you hoped for?
Keep in mind that as the lady on secondment has been at the firm longer than you have, she might already be on a higher salary - and isn't likely to undertake a secondment if it means a cut in salary.0 -

Harsh reality is they simply like her more than you..or she has negotiated a better deal or (what are multiple or"s Oars i guess...lol.) for some other reason she simply earns more than you, accept it and move on.
Sadly were not all equal..some are better at asking for what they feel they deserve.0 -
Length of service, previous role etc all affect salary. The secondment wouldn't be happening if management didn't think she was capable of doing the job. The company certainly wouldn't expect anybody on a secondment to take a pay cut. Maybe she's actually getting a bonus for accepting the secondment.
Whatever the reason for the pay differential there is likely to be nothing you can do about it. Training her has the potential to improve your position in the company as you may be viewed in a more positive light at the end of the period.0 -
If you work in any career there will always be people on more money than you. It is just the way of working life. People doing the same job will not all get paid the same salary.0

There's a risk attached to taking on a secondment. Even though they would have to give her previous role back at the end, changes during that time could mean that the role is quite different. The cost of the risk is the difference in the salary.0

If you think you are being underpaid, it is perfectly reasonable to approach your manager and ask for a pay rise.
However I don't think this ladies' salary is a great reason. It may feel unfair that she is getting paid more than you, but from a practical perspective she wouldn't be doing the secondment if that would result in a pay cut.0 -
She is on 2k more probably because she is on a higher salary than you anyway and they have not penalised her for covering maternity.
This is why I say over and over, keep salaries to yourself, nothing gets a persons pride and self worth going more than you earning more than them0
