Long notice period

Three months notice periods are becoming more and more common now, it is to protect the company from losing key skills without having adequate time to replace them.
I am surprised you are finding companies put off bu this notice period as I have never had that problem.
3 month notice is the wrong way to fix the problem of people leaving and being hard to recruit.0 -
Academic posts as a norm have a 3 month notice period, it would seem unlikely that your notice period is hugely different from others applying for analyst jobs (some of whom will be from academia). There is usually some room for negotiation.0

Thanks a lot Les. This is great advice- much appreciated.
As a couple of others have already said, it is terrible advice.
Anyone who is talking about employers not being happy to wait a month only has experience of low-level, minimum wage type jobs. Waiting a month is considered the absolute norm.
Again as others have said, if they have a problem with a three month waiting period then just tell them that you will be happy to negotiate an earlier release from your current employer if required and that you don't foresee there being any problems. Most companies have the sense to realise that keeping you for a month, or six weeks where you are actually motivated to do your best is better than hanging on to you for three months against your will when you have no desire to go out of your way to make things work for them.0
