The problem is with a chronic illness these are not emergencies they are just events you know will happen, not when.
You have no plans in place except yourself not being at work
For some employers that will not be good enough0 -
they are emergencies and it’s not when it happens at all, it’s if it happens. She can go for being absolutley fine one moment to bring rushed into hospital the next. She can go for months being well and then out of the blue become sick.
As I said in my previous posts I have only ever had a day off when this has happened as it’s normally fallen over weekends and my husband also has time off with her. It’s hard to make alternative arrangements when she’s so serious at the time and needs me there.
I have listened to the advice and appreciate it.
I think the way forward is to take parental leave for summer holidays and appointments and use my holidays for emergencies0 -
Wherever I've worked 'emergency time off' was considered to be the day the situation arose. Subsequent days were no longer considered to be 'emergency', the theory being that you had time to make alternative arrangements on the first day. I'm not saying whether or not that's practical, simply stating how things were handled.
I'm not sure that there is anything in law to state how such situations must be handled, it's down to the employer.
The solution you have suggested looks reasonable but needs to be discussed with your employer, not just assumed to be an acceptable solution.0
