I know I don't have to use the BC, and I couldn't anyway as I turned it into confetti when I cleared the balance. I am not sure what kind of impact having a dormant credit card account on my credit file is but having 0 balance every month can only be good surely? If it doesn't harm my credit file then fair enough!

    A few options
    * use it for a little purchase every month and then clear it every month to show good habits
    * leave it dormant - but excess credit can be a bad sign
    * cancel it - but then you haven't got it if you need it

But you shouldnt need it, so I would cancel it.

I don't know the effect any of the bits of advice would have on your credit score - it probably will change different systems in different ways so don't over think it - just do whichever of the options makes you feel happier

Well the whole point of getting rid of it is so I don't land myself in the mess I was in with them again. I have already destroyed the card so impulse spending is stopped for sure! and would be useless in some kind of emergency. I think I would feel much better having the account closed.
