Help with old credit card debt

I am an old age pensioner and on a limited income, have had step change deal with my debts for the last 18 months but it has been very hard and I have resorted to using an old credit card (undisclosed) for emergencies. It is now well over the limit. I do know that I have to inform them very soon as my husband has been paying the minimum amount to keep this account active but he can no longer sustain the payments and doesn't know I have used it. All my credit cards (three of them) are over20 years old. Advice needed please.

Your Debt Management plan should have had enough flexibility in it that you didn't need to resort to further credit.

We recommend that you build an emergency fund before starting payments on a dmp.

Get them to review your strategy. It may be that something else (like a DRO) would be more suited anyway.

Have you done a detailed soa (statement of affairs), if you do that and post it on here, people should be able to help and see where there might be savings to be made in your budget.

I don't expect you to reveal your personal circumstances on here, but are you getting all benefits you may be entitled to, such as pension credit, help with council tax etc? You may be getting help with these already. If not, you may be able to get extra money, depending on your circumstances.

I'm not an expert about credit cards, but if they are unsecured debts, then you may be able to arrange a more manageable payment plan. No disrespect, but at retirement age, whilst you want peace of mind, you may not be so worried about your credit rating as someone in their twenties wanting a mortgage for example. So just arranging to pay them off with some debt advisor/citizens advice help may take the pressure away.
