Car's electric window not going up
Just on my way home earlier and heard an almighty thud/bang. Didn't know what the hell it was until I later tried to do my electric driver side window up - the motor was engaged but no glass window rising!
I can see that the window has not smashed through probably falling, hence the thud. (Although it did feel rather louder than that so not sure if I am correct on that).
Given that the glass is in tact and the motor works - i can also see some cable movement when I look into the slot where the window is - am I looking at a big job for fix. I just would have thought it has to go back on a runner, but having visited three garages just now, they just said it would be a window regulator replacement and this is likely to be an hour or so job. One quoted 170 and the other 65!! I know!
So could it just be a runner issue? They didn't even look at the door/window! Would I ben ripped off to pay near to a hundred?
Thanks

This isn't a BMW E46 series, is it? They are always going wrong, but are a doddle to fix. See youtube. The part is £22 from Amazon.0

I wish car manufacturers would just stick with manual window controls - have never seen any advantage with electric and they just annoy me as often go the opposite way you expect or wind all the way down when you just want it down an inch or two0

I wouldn't.
I did that once (many years ago). The problem was easy to fix but putting the panels back was a pig of a job.
I'd pay the £65.0 -
I just don't want to be paying for a big job when it's just a little 'put it back on the runner' job!
Already had one of the garages come out with the line "Yeah that's common on Honda Civics" which is my car. Just sounds so cliche!0 -

The big job is acccessing the door panel without damaging anything and putting it back.
That is what you are paying for.
It's much like plumbing. A simple job, but complicated by the positions you have to do it in.0 -
Done this many times on my vw for locks and window problems. Not tricky just time consuming.
The plastic brackets/runners are pennies on fleabay to fix this fault. Get some butyl bead to seal afterwards. Just recently done the cables for the electric window, £4 and a few hours diy...sorted.Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience? Why? So you can argue with them?0
